ABOUT
Inspired by the Dutch Golden Age and modern cinematography, my practice centers on the relationship between light and shadow and the emotional impact it has on the human form. Influenced by the old masters my portraiture draws from classical uses of pigment, composition, and lighting applied to a modern subject. I also explore these themes through photography, using exposure and light manipulation to evoke cinematic qualities. Both disciplines are deeply informed by film, and I’m continually inspired by the visual parallels between Golden Age paintings and modern cinematography. Through each portrait, I aim to capture a glimpse of the subject’s personality—often revealed through their eyes—set against moody, illuminated backgrounds that echo the language of both cinema and classical art.
